"You've gotta be good/ you've gotta be strong / you've gotta be in 2000 places at once"
I'm sitting here, trying to write chapter two of my thesis, which has scared the heck out of me and I see it! I see it for the first time and yet...there are so many words in between now and the end.
Saturday I volunteered to assume my friend's duties as Fifteen Minutes photographer and get stuff for their "As it were" page. ie, party photos. I learned quickly I'm not meant to be a tabloid photographer. There is something consummately embarassing about circling round a questionable dance situation trying to get the best angle. But hey- Masquerade, Tennis Skirt Memorial Party ("I need to find sketchiness!" "We could do something sketchy" ummmm, no thanks), RCS Golf, SAE, Dunster, Tennis Skirt, RCS...

Happy Trifon Zarezan!
The Bulgarian holiday everyone should celebrate on February 14:)
"It is called Trifon Zarezan (derived from the word zaryazvam or cut) because all vine-growers perform the first pruning of the vineyards. In this, the men are accompanied by the women, the young and the kids. They all go together to their piece of land to show their respect to it and inspire it for a new life with the first farming ritual during for the year, with festive songs and dances, with a ritual table laid among the vineyards. The first pruned vine sticks will be wreathed into a crown for the best vine-grower in the village. He will be proclaimed the "Vine King" of the year. The men pick up the vine king and carry him around. Everyone wants to be blessed by him and treat him with their wine. The more wine that is poured on that day, the more generous the next harvest will be."
"And she says losing love is like a window in your heart..."

"Conservatives should be suspect of war because war is the great radicalizer of the 20th century"- Prof. Terry Martin
After worry and sleepless nights, its study card day again:
History of Art and Architecture 178w: Contemporary Photography as History
English 90ps: Literature and Psychoanalysis
Portuguese Ad
History 99: "they're all fun classes, e/c the thesis. when will it be over. when."
Although, with only 7 hours of class a week, I'd better pretend thesis is two classes, or something. or something:)

"Let me guess. You're from......Ohio? uh....Oregon?"
"the wildest, sexiest, sketchiest, skankiest party of the year.
--- SLEAZE ---
Saturday, Feb. 5th
Winthrop G-35 starting at 10pm
Dress appropriately. Dress inappropriately."
looking back, this will be it, I suppose. mingling and sort of dancing, pbr's lining the sill, vodka spilled on the floor. but good-natured all around, non-sketchy for all its effort because...oh, I'm not ready for the real world. I kinda like this one.

"To Everyone in Winthrop:
A water main broke on Broadway Street at about 5:00 PM. There is no water in the Harvard area. Please let us know if you have emergency needs for drinking water. We will let you know when we find out more."
The prologue to an apocalyptic novel perhaps. The part where no one is really worried yet, that there is no water. At 5:06 they announced the library was closing because of a water problem...nice we thought- we got paid anyway. except for well, I was supposed to microfilm after...but so go to dinner instead, just as they are replacing the dishware with plastic. and putting out bottled water and putting "out of order" signs on the water and soda machines. but because harvard kids need their liquid sugar, they also broke out reserve supplies of ...

There are snowbanks as tall as me, and a two stories long icicle hanging from the eaves of our dorm (no joke- they have the area underneath roped off). A 4 hour flight, all the difference in the world....
